Highly acclaimed British tenor, Ruairi Bowen and prize-winning accompanist William Vann perform a concert centred around Benjamin Britten’s “Winter Words”. The cycle explores themes of memory, transience, and the passage of time, often through vivid imagery of the natural world and human experience. The concert will also include works such as Finzi’s setting of metaphysical poet Thomas Traherne’s poetry, “Dies Natalis” in a setting for piano and tenor. The narrative follows his turbulent relationship with the controversial literary figure George Sand, their time together in Majorca, his fragile health and his ultimate demise in poverty in Paris at the age of 39. The readings are interspersed with some of his most loved and poignant compositions. The New Sarum Singers bring festive music to their “Christmas Magic” concert. This is a full programme of traditional Christmas carols mixed with some musical magic of perhaps less familiar songs. We are also proud to announce that the choir will be joined by some excellent young soloists (students from a local school) to make this a truly memorable event. Free Admission and Parking with a retiring collection in aid of Women’s Refuge, providing accommodation and support for up to 12 women and their children (Registered Charity Number: 1112497).
